Le gouvernement américain appuie le processus électoral

L'ambassadeur des Etats-Unis à Port-au-Prince, Kenneth Merten, affirme que l'administration américaine entend appuyer les efforts des autorités haïtiennes dans le processus électoral.

Dans une interview exclusive à radio Métropole le diplomate américain a souhaité que le prochain scrutin soit honnête, crédible et transparent. Rappelant que les Etats-Unis ont toujours contribué à la réalisation des élections, M. Merten a assuré que la contribution américaine vise entre autres à garantir la crédibilité des joutes.

Même si le montant de l'apport financier américain n'est pas encore déterminé, Kenneth Merten précise que cette contribution ne sera pas remise en cause. Les Etats-Unis veulent notamment faciliter le travail des missions d'observation électorale nationales et étrangères.

Interrogé sur le refus des partis de l'opposition de participer à des élections, organisées par l'actuel CEP, le diplomate américain a fait valoir que les élections du 28 novembre permettront l'arrivée au pouvoir de dirigeants légitimes. Il juge que ces élections sont importantes puisqu'elles autoriseront un transfert de pouvoir entre des élus le 7 février 2011.

Intervenant sur ce dossier en créole, Kenneth Merten a soutenu que les prochaines joutes seront l'occasion de sanctionner le gouvernement.

En ce qui a trait à la méfiance des acteurs politiques vis-à-vis du chef de l'Etat et du CEP, M. Merten a expliqué que les Etats-Unis oeuvrent afin de garantir un scrutin crédible et qui respecte les règles du jeu démocratique.
