Notre Dame Education Center in South Boston is seeking a part-time ESOL Teacher. This person will teach ESOL Level 1, 8:30-11:00a.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. With prep and program time, this is 17 hours per week.
 
SUMMARY:
The ESOL teacher provides group instruction to adult learners. Instructors must maintain student assessment and attendance records to monitor student progress during the year. They must meet with students throughout the year to update student goals. Teachers are responsible for developing lesson plans and sub-plans. They are required to attend staff development workshops, update curriculum in keeping with the DESE frameworks, and participate in the committees and events of the Center. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Collaborate with the ESOL team to register prospective students, administer placement tests and complete all intake forms
-Maintain appropriate student records
-Select and develop class material suitable for the students’ level
-Provide input and participate in program and staff development
-Attend at least 12 hours of professional development activities per year, or 2.5% of paid hours, whichever is greater
-New staff is required to attend the fifteen hour teacher orientation provided by SABES in addition to the hours of required professional development
-Create an informal, comfortable environment that is conducive to learning
-Work with the ESOL coordinator in establishing the alignment of ESOL Curriculum Frameworks with NDEC curriculum
-Formulate well defined and consistent objectives with the instructional level of students
-Participate in monthly staff meetings
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Bachelors degree or higher, Masters degree preferred
-Experience working with adult learners
-Ability to adapt teaching styles and materials to meet the individual needs of learners
-Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
-Ability to work well in a multicultural community-based program
-Good computer skills

Adult Educator(s) to teach one or two classes in ESOL and writing and reading to direct care workers for a union based workplace education program at a residential facility in Wrentham, MA.
 
Two classes: Sept. 2010 – June 2011
*ESOL (SPL 3-7) – Monday and Thursday, 2 – 4 pm (for 1st/2nd shift workers) *ABE (GL 4-8) – Monday and Thursday, 10 pm – 12 midnight (for 2nd/3rd shift workers)
 
Responsibilities:
• Help to recruit, assess, retain students at workplace • Prepare lessons and teach ESOL, Writing and Reading skills • Help develop contextualized curriculum and participate in curriculum development meetings • Administer TABE CLAS - E and/or MAPT assessment • Keep student records, attendance • Prepare monthly Planning Coordination Team (PCT) reports, attend PCT meetings in Wrentham, and monthly WEP staff meetings in Dorchester, MA • Be part of a great team of committed teachers.
 
Education/Experience/Requirements:
 
• BA/BS minimum, preferably in ESOL or Adult Education • Two years experience working with adult learners • Familiarity with workplace education and unions • Experience developing contextualized and learner-centered instructional materials and curriculum • Trained in one of the above assessments preferred
 
Additional requirements:
• Personal transportation to worksite
• Able to attend monthly staff meeting in Dorchester, MA
 
Compensation: $20-24.66/hr for 9 hrs/week for each class, paid prep; pro-rated benefits

The Asian American Civic Association (AACA) provides limited English speaking and economically disadvantaged people with education, occupational training and social services enabling them to realize lasting economic self-sufficiency.
 
Part-time Positions Available: Workplace ESOL Instructors and Part-time ESOL Instructor
 
Workplace ESOL Instructors (in Boston's Chinatown)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
·        Teach at least one Workplace ESOL classes, late afternoons/early evenings in Boston's Chinatown.
·        Prepare lessons for adult learners of English working in a medical center in one or two different leveled classrooms.
·        Work closely with coordinator and other teachers to plan curriculum according to employer's and students' needs.
·        Meet monthly with workplace education team.
·        Maintain accurate records and appropriate paperwork.
 
Qualifications/Requirements:
·        Trustworthy, reliable, timely individual capable of working independently.
·        Ability to work well in a mixed level classroom, providing instruction that meets the needs of all students.
·        Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required.
·        At least 2 years teaching Adult ESOL
·        Workplace Education experience preferred.
·        Some knowledge of health care vocabulary.
 
Salary:  $19-21/hour commensurate with experience.  This is a part-time position with several scheduling options, with the possibility of combining it with other daytime ESL teaching position to have up to 80% of a full-time job.
 
Workplace ESOL Instructor (Teach Tuesdays/Thursdays 4-6 in North Quincy)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
·        Teach at least one workplace ESOL class, Tuesdays/Thursdays 4-6 pm in North Quincy, MA
·        Prepare lessons for adult learners of English working in a health center in a multi-level classrooms.
·        Work closely with coordinator to plan curriculum according to employer's and students' needs.
·        Meet monthly with program coordination team.
·        Maintain accurate records and appropriate paperwork.
 
Qualifications/Requirements:
·        Trustworthy, reliable, timely individual capable of working independently.
·        Ability to work well in a mixed level classroom, providing instruction that meets the needs of all students.
·        Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required.
·        At least 2 years teaching Adult ESOL
·        Workplace Education experience preferred.
·        Some knowledge of health care vocabulary.
 
Salary:  $19-21/hour commensurate with experience.  Paid for 9-10 hours/week, with the possibility of an additional 7 hour/week Workplace ESOL teaching job, Monday/Wednesday evenings in Chinatown.
 
Part-time ESOL Teacher
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching:
·        Teaching one 2-hour class, Tuesday through Fridays, 8:30-10:30 am, for immigrant adults.  Cycles are 12 weeks long.  Starting immediately.  This is a the top level of a 5-level basic ESOL program.  After studying in this transitional level, students may go on to study in AACA's free intermediate level program, job training, or community college.
·        Contribute to ongoing curriculum development at appropriate level.
·        Survey students' expectation/goals at the beginning of each new cycle and develop appropriate curriculum.
·        Administer regular, ongoing in-class assessments, including (but not limited to) a mid-term exam and final exam.
·        Make teacher's program's expectations clear to students at the beginning of each new cycle.
·        Communicate classroom/student issues to Program Manager in a timely manner.
·        Help students understand the agency's educational pathway as well another services available to them at agency's Multi-Service Center.
 
Administration
·        Administer/score placement tests before each new cycle.
·        Place orders for textbooks at the beginning of each new cycle.
·        Keep daily student attendance records.
·        Maintain up-to-date student information (dropout, completion etc) in agency database each month.
·        Attend regular team meetings and monthly all-staff meetings.
·        Prepare certificates at the end of each cycle for all students completing your class. 
Qualifications/Requirements:
·        Master's degree in education, TESOL, applied linguistics or related field strongly preferred.
·        Recent college graduates with M.A. or B.A. encouraged to apply.
·        Teaching or tutoring experience with immigrant adult learners required.
·        Native speaker of English strong preferred. 
Salary:  $15-17/hour (for 8 hours teaching and 4 hours prep per week, plus an additional 6 hours per MONTH for meetings and assessments - all paid time).  No benefits.

St. Mark Community Education Program is both an ESOL and a Citizenship Program. We provide 5 ESOL classes and an English for Citizenship class on evenings and weekends to accommodate the needs of working adults. We believe that by improving their English abilities and by attaining citizenship immigrants will gain education, work, and social opportunities and thus strengthen themselves and the communities they live in.   SMCEP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Qualifications:
·        B.A. or M.A. in English, ESL, Applied Linguistics, or Education
·        2-3 years experience working with adult ESOL learners, especially Vietnamese, Cape Verdean, and Haitian populations
·        Experience with data management, especially Excel and FileMaker Pro databases
·        Certified BEST Plus test administrator; experience with this data management and reporting
·        Experience with the processes and requirements of attaining citizenship preferred
·        Experience recruiting and training volunteers
Duties:
·        15 hours a week for 40 weeks
·        Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
·        Contact and counsel students as needed
·        Develop and maintain student records and track student progress
·        Manage new student assessment and placement in August and January; perform and/or manage BEST Plus assessments for ESOL and Citizenship students
·        Help with Orientations at beginning of semester

The class prepares students for all parts of the Citizenship interview, including the 100 questions about U.S. history and government. And the class helps students improve their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
 
Classes are free; $30 deposit for book and cd to be returned on successful completion of class.
 
St. Mark Community Education Program works in collaboration with the Irish Immigration Center to help students successfully apply for citizenship and pass their citizenship interviews. Dates for technical and legal assistance to be announced.
