Outgoing Executive Director David O'Brien to Join Northwind
Strategies as Vice President
BOSTON - Governor Deval Patrick today announced that Alex Goldstein, his campaign and administration spokesman for the past two years, will become the executive director for the Deval Patrick Committee (DPC) and the TogetherPAC (TPAC) next Monday.
Goldstein succeeds David O'Brien, who has served as executive director since January and previously served as finance director for the Governor's 2010 reelection campaign and as director of Governor Patrick's 2006 and 2010 inaugurations. O'Brien is leaving to become Vice President of Northwind Strategies.
"Alex brings proven communications and grassroots organizing experience to these leadership roles at a critical time," said Governor Patrick. "Because we are governing by conviction to certain timeless values -- a commitment to leave things better for those who come behind us -- we lead the Nation in growing jobs, strengthening the public schools, and securing health care for working people. We look forward to telling that story around the country, for the benefit of the President's re-election campaign, and Alex is just the person to help us do so."
Goldstein currently serves as Governor Patrick's official press secretary. Goldstein worked on the Governor's first campaign in 2006 as a regional field director, and has previously served as Communications Director for the Massachusetts Democratic Party and press secretary for the Governor's reelection campaign, among other roles.
"It has been an honor serving Governor Patrick over the past five years as both a grassroots organizer and as his press secretary," said Goldstein. "I am thrilled to be on board for this next exciting chapter to do everything we can in the coming weeks and months to support our President, and our initiatives here in the Commonwealth."
During his tenure as executive director, O'Brien was instrumental in establishing the TogetherPAC, Governor Patrick's federal political action committee. TogetherPAC seeks to build upon the governor's accomplishments in Massachusetts, encouraging grassroots activism and promoting the politics of conviction on a national level.
"The focus on education, innovation and infrastructure has been a winning strategy here in Massachusetts, and we are well positioned to support the President's similar strategy in the re-election campaign," said O'Brien. "It has been exciting to help create TPAC to enable the Governor to tell our story across the country."
"We would not have TPAC today without David's thoughtful leadership," said Governor Patrick. "I appreciate his friendship and support, and will look forward to working with him in other ways going forward."
Under O'Brien's leadership, the DPC fully retired campaign debt from the 2010 campaign and established TPAC in the spring of 2011. Through TPAC, the Governor has appeared as keynote speaker in a number of battleground states, telling the story of the Commonwealth's progress and rallying Democrats and other voters to support the President's values and efforts.
